CurseForge mod of the year 2025: Companions!

The Companions! mod expands Minecraft by adding 10 tameable creatures with distinct abilities, multi-stage transformations, and companion-specific control states. Players progress through a structured system built around Small Essence and Great Essence (dropped by hostile mobs), which are used to heal tamed companions, while summoned companions cannot be healed. To manage your team, every companion can be set to wander, sit, or follow, and summons can be configured to follow either the player or their summoner companion.

Progression is supported by dedicated crafting and processing blocks, especially the Great Chalice and the Soul Furnace. The Great Chalice stores essence and can charge an Empty Grail into a Filled Grail used in crafting. The Soul Furnace, powered through a charged chalice placed on top, converts items into soul-based results (item, block, or entity outcomes) and can be extended via datapacks using JSON recipes in data/companions/recipes/soul_furnace. For recipe visibility and planning, JEI is recommended and compatible.

The mod also introduces the Tesla Network, a connected system built with components like Voltaic Pillars, Voltaic Relays, Tesla Coils, and Plasma Lamps, linked using the Wrench. The Recall Platform provides network-limited teleportation, meaning travel is only possible between platforms within the same Tesla Network. Several companions interact with these systems directly, such as Dinamo, which can be restored from a Broken Dinamo and used as both a combat helper and a seated power source for Tesla components.

End progression centers on the two-phase boss fight against Sacred Pontiff and His Holiness, whose drops (Old Cloth and Relic Gold) feed into late-game crafting such as the Respawn Totem and companion summons like Cloak and Mankh. Along the way, players can build toward specific companion setups such as the Soul Mage (created from the Golden Allay and enhanced through magic books), the phase-shifting Minion line tied to the coin economy, and transformation-focused companions like the Antlion and Croissant Dragon to cover combat, mobility, and utility needs.
